The title says it all, folks. It was during a "Talent/No Talent Show" at my college (yeah, that's really what they called it), and while it wasn't that bad, I found myself less than entertained, so of course, I started sketching, and ended up with this abominable thing. As it says, I'm aware that it's probably very anatomically screwed up, since I was just drawing it from nowhere, with no recent reference in my mind to make it look more presentable. Just kind of a spur of the moment thing, really. The pic was taken with my iPhone, so sorry if it seems badly done.
If I had to blame this creation on anything, it's that my mind was still reeling from seeing the cult classic cartoon film Heavy Metal on my new Netflix account. Fantastic movie, excellent art (I usually only like rotoscoping if it's done well, and they made sure to do that and then some), and it blends a feel of surreal story-telling, nightmarish horror, wonky tongue-in-cheek comedy, and bizarre sci-fi/fantasy; but trust me, it's definitely NSFW. Butts of both kinds, boobs, and bushes alongside blood, barbarism, boorishness, and even alien blow. And for the ladies, there's even a scene where a nerd is transformed into an Adonis-like figure, with a quick glimpse of his, as he himself put it, 'dork', a la Dr. Manhattan. 0: And the soundtrack, as you might imagine, is kick-ass, with contributors like Blue Öyster Cult, Devo, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, Journey, and so on. If you have a Netflix account, I highly recommend watching it on instant play. Another 80s animated film that has rockin' musical themes that I recommend is Nelvana's Rock & Rule, which is more PG-13, very differently animated, and with a very different way of telling a story, but dang if it isn't one of my all-time favorites.
I just moved into my college dorm on Wednesday, and I gotta say, it's pretty nice; I'll hafta upload some pics of it soon.
P.S. Those dark areas on its hide are scar tissue, and the right eye is blind. Just thought I'd add that in.
Thanks, Mandy. Originally, its feet were more lizard-like, but because I couldn't think of an immediate reference when I was drawing this that would've stopped that from being even more proportionally incorrect, I just opted for two-toed feet with nails long/thick enough to make them look like hooves.
And you totally should. Since you're going off ta college yerself, I'd suggest investing $13.99 a month for the Netflix package that lets you rent two at a time, and watch ones available to watch online (like Heavy Metal) at an unlimited rate. Heck, even if you don't want an account, and just want to watch that movie, they let ya have a two week free trial, which you can cancel at any time!
i like them instead of just going with the normal clawy-ey lizard feet XD
i should! im also contemplating buying some cartoon episodes off of itunes since its here in my mac anyways and i have a card to do it myself. i still lack and ipod but hell i can watch it here
hmmm that sandwich board you're wearing with their name is mighttttty suspicious
