Li'l A'Tuin and Me by dungeonmaster11 Li'l A'Tuin and Me by dungeonmaster11
A picture of me and my new pet Red-Eared Slider, A'Tuin (whose gender even the vet has yet to determine, due to his/her young age/small size). Ain't s/he cute? :aww:

The story behind A'Tuin is that, while walking to my high school's farthermost grounds and back (about two miles; great for cardio and walkin' the dog!), I spotted an odd-looking rock, which I looked at closer and saw was actually a turtle hatchling on the side of the road, dirty and dry looking. Finding it to be both helpless and utterly adorable, my mom and I both agreed to take the little bugger in as a new pet. After buying the proper habitat facility, food, and water conditioners to assure A'Tuin's comfort and health, we scheduled a check-up a week and a half later, and were pleased to learn of the lack of disease and fungal infections upon 'im. Now, we just need a little bit more time, and maybe we'll find out if it's a he or a she. Hmmm......:p

Oh, and as the title suggests, that's me holding A'Tuin there.

You need to upload a good shot of A'Tuin that we can superimpose elephants and a flat world on top of.

Thanks! And yeah, s/he really is a cute little terrapin. :aww: And I'm not sure, probably a year and three quarters by now. I don't own A'tuin anymore tho'; read this journal of mine from a few months back for info on his/her whereabouts: [link]

oh i love sliders; we used to have a pair, but they are now in a turtle sanctuary (they outgrew everything in our apartment... they get huuuuge, especially the girls :aww:)

Yeah, I'll have to find a sanctuary for A'tuin before I leave for college. After all, s/he can only remain small for so long, and s/he'll probably be much happier amongst his/her brethren, in a much more natural and well-maintained environment.

LOL maybe he fell from a fire escape... Kinda like one of my turtles. She was a Mississippi Map turtle who we named Spikey... LOL We were going crazy posting fliers around the block, and then some woman told us that some kid found a turtle, and took it in. We then went to the kid's house, and I took her back. LOL He had her in a tank and everything.

We never did end up seeing any fliers or posters about a missing turtle around, not to mention there aren't any houses with a fire escape within at least a twelve mile radius of where we found him. But the idea would seem plausible if the circumstances weren't set up as such, so thanks for inputting the theory anyway. :)

omg I used to have a red-eared turtle like this one! And it was also named A'Tuin! xD mine was female btw :P
dungeonmaster11 Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2009
Heh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought to name their pet terrapin after the Great Turtle itself. And it can fit to turtles of either gender, since Great A'tuin's gender is still a mystery to the inhabitants of Discworld (though The Light Fantastic did give some hints about that....).

Don't worry, I will! I don't think I could ever find it in me not to dote on/nurture cute animals. After all, I also have two budgie parakeets! :D

If I had to make a suggestion, I'd say you should go for ones sold domestically. Circumstance just so happened to dictate that I should adopt a wild'un. And thanks for the fave! :D
